Battle avatar clothing? newbie question

I was wondering if it's possible for me to give my battle avatar/avatar in general some clothes? I don't know if it's just a newbie/not enough armor thing, but I couldn't figure it out, and the avatar as it is makes me uncomfortable. I'd hate to leave what looks like such a great game just because of the battle animation. >.>

Male characters seem to wear more cloth in general, but u will get more cloth when u get more things
