i didn't lose it when i logged off it was there and when i logged back on it was gone.

Your Ethereal Shield of Defender expired on January the 1st, all Ethereal items have time limit before they disappear.

When you hover over any ethereal item it has "Life Span" that is updated constantly , once it runs out item disappears.

what is ethereal it was the the imperial shield? and there was no life span that i saw.

As far as i see you did not have any imperial shield only Ethereal Shield of Defender that you acquired on eleventh of december and it's life span ended january the 1st.
